The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) is “closely monitoring” Hurricane Florence, has provided information resources online and, if necessary, “will be ready to assist credit unions with maintaining or restoring operations,” the agency said in a release Wednesday.
The agency has links to information resources for credit unions and consumers via its Hurricane and Disaster Information webpage; it also can provide urgent needs grants of up to $7,500 to low-income credit unions that experience sudden costs to restore operations interrupted by the storm, the agency said. (Grants are administered via the agency’s Office of Credit Union Resources and Expansion.)
In addition, the agency is encouraging credit union members to check their credit unions’ websites and social media sites for real-time information updates, including operating hours. NCUA also has a Consumer Assistance Center – dial (800) 755-1030 – that operates Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET.
