Cover up of theft with counterfeit funds leads to worker’s prohibition

An alleged scheme to steal bank funds by falsely reporting receipt of counterfeit bills to conceal the theft has earned a former bank employee a prohibition from further work in the banking industry, the national bank regulator reported Thursday.

In publicly revealing its enforcement actions for September, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) said Natasha Aikens, a former lead associate for JPMorgan Chase Bank of Columbus, Ohio, was involved in the alleged scheme with another bank worker.

Aikens was working at the bank’s branch in Brooklyn, N.Y., at the time of the conduct, the OCC said.

The agency said from January 2020 to June 2021, Aikens and the other employee were engaged in the plot. The agency said that, because of the theft, the bank “suffered a loss of at least $201,785.”

The OCC said Aikens consented to the prohibition.
