Former OCC chief counsel Gould nominated as comptroller

Rodney Hood’s stint as acting comptroller of the currency may be a brief one, as the president has nominated Jonathan Gould to a five-year term in the comptroller post.

Gould served previously at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) as its senior deputy controller and chief counsel under former Comptroller Joseph Otting.

Information from the OCC shows that earlier, Gould was on the staff of the Senate Banking Committee and has also served at Promontory Financial Group, BlackRock, and Alston & Bird LLP. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University and law degree from Washington and Lee University, it says. It shows he held his OCC chief counsel post from late 2018 until mid-2021, when he left for the private sector.

Gould’s nomination was submitted to the Senate Tuesday and awaits Senate Banking Committee action.
